Environment
Knox County has made great strides in improving water and air pollution, but it will require strong leadership that doesn't currently exist to insure the continued improvement necessary to secure our County's economic future and health. I will fight for:
- Continued Improvements in Air Quality Using Best Practices. Previously, Knox County skirted with non-attainment and some of the proposals required for EPA compliance were not in the best economic interest of the County. With my expertise in air quality issues, I would bring the most cost-effective ideas and implementation methods to bear, drawing on experience and connections with other air quality agencies.
- Improvements in Water Quality. Fort Loudon and its tributaries provides both drinking water and recreational opportunities. While the water has improved, we have a long way to go, especially with silt run-off issues (see Blog entries). The September 2007 vote for stormwater management was a horrible give-away to the Homebuilders Association and will mire the County in yet another lawsuit. This solution can be solved without affecting growth. It simply takes a new voice
- Improvements in Energy Efficiency. New County buildings should follow LEEDs standards, and the County should cooperate with the City in their Energy & Sustainability Task Force. More municipalities are learning that energy efficiency up front saves taxpayers in the long run.

I need your vote to secure our County's health and environmental/economic security!
